Humboldt - Bayer Foundation Research Hub

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation created a program to establish five research hubs in Africa. These hubs enable experts to conduct long-term research projects aimed at addressing pandemics.

As part of our collaboration, Bayer Foundation is funding a sixth research hub at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology in Nigeria. The Center for Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Diseases (CERID) aims to control emerging infectious diseases in Africa and beyond by offering regional rapid testing, establishing local biobanks, training personnel, and conducting advanced genomic research on infectious diseases.

The hub is headed by Professor Dr. Daniel Olusola Ojurongbe, an expert in medical molecular biology, who collaborates with Professor Dr Thirumalaisamy P. Velavan, University Hospital Tübingen, Germany, and Professor Dr Mohamed Osman, University of Khartoum, Sudan.

You can read more about CERID and the different research hubs here.
