Winners of the Thrombosis Research Award: Dr. Annemieke ter Telgte and Dr. Kami Pekayvaz
The independent expert jury has unanimously decided to award the Bayer Thrombosis Research Award 2025 to the two outstanding researchers, Dr. Annemieke ter Telgte and Dr. Kami Pekayvaz, and to distribute the prize money accordingly. Dr. Annemieke ter Telgte is being honored for her research on small vessel diseases in the brain. Dr. Kami Pekayvaz is recognized for his groundbreaking research in translational thrombosis research.
The award was kindly established by Bayer scientists being awarded the German Future Prize (“Deutscher Zukunftspreis des Bundespräsidenten”) for the invention of the anticoagulant Xarelto® in 2009.
Dr. Annemieke ter Telgte is awarded for her pioneering research on cerebral small vessel disease, which has significantly advanced the understanding of the disease pathophysiology, the diagnosis, and the implications for patients. Her innovative approaches and insights contribute to improving the treatment and management of this complex condition, enhancing the lives of those affected.
Dr. Kami Pekayvaz is honored for his groundbreaking work in translational thrombosis research, focusing on the interplay between thrombosis and inflammation in cardiovascular and infectious diseases. His research has opened important new perspectives for understanding the mechanisms of thrombosis and could provide crucial insights for future therapeutic approaches.
With these awards, we recognize the outstanding achievements of both researchers and their significant contributions to thrombosis research. The award ceremony will take place on February 18, 2025 during the conference of the German Society for Thrombosis and Haemostasis (GTH) in Lausanne.
